Press Release

July 12, 2007

Bridgewater – The Somerset County Association of Chiefs of Police is sponsoring a picnic and static display for the Children of Camp Okee Sunokee.  Chief William G. Parenti president of the Chief’s association announced, the display will include vehicles and Officers from Somerset County Police Departments, Sheriff’s Officers with Canines, a New Jersey State Police Helicopter and other Police related equipment.

The camp is for children with learning disabilities or Asperger's Syndrome.  The camp encourages the development of recreation and social skills and enhances self-confidence and educational growth through the participation in a variety of activities.  We are happy to be a part of this.  For many years, we held a fishing derby for the kids and this year we decided to mix it up and display some of the police equipment we thought the children would like.  We enjoy having lunch and interacting with the children, Chief Parenti said.

The event is being held at North Branch Park, 355 Milltown Road Bridgewater, NJ (where the 4H fair is held) on Friday July 20, 2007 from 10:30am – 2:30pm.

In addition, Chief Parenti announced, the Somerset County Association of Chiefs of Police will award their annual College Scholarships.  The students selected represent the finest in academic achievement, community service, and extra-curricular activities.   A committee, consisting of four Somerset County Police Chiefs, selected the five recipients and each student shall receive a $2,000 scholarship.  Congratulations to the following students:  Coleen Sniscak, Christopher E. Peltak, Kelsey Stahl, Stephanie Leon, and Hailey Celeste
